SAG Awards

One fun aspect of being a member of the Screen Actor’s Guild is the fact that we get to vote for the SAG Awards. We started receiving packages in the mail at the end of December. At first I was confused as to what they were. I tend to just take all SAG mail and hand it to Ben to deal with. I don’t pay much attention to it because, for the most part, I am busy with getting paint off of hands, prepping meals, and teaching four children important stuff. Maybe this time I should have paid better attention.

Every day we would get more and more letters and packages that looked like DVDs. It’s when I started seeing DVDs come in of movies that I have been wanting to watch, that suddenly I was questioning what these all were.

Apparently they are called screeners. So, they’re snippets of movies so we can vote on them for awards. Right? Nope. Wrong. They aren’t snippets. They are full length movies, full seasons of television shows, and full access to the shows online! Life suddenly got very exciting!

Now… I’m a person who likes to have checklists and to methodically check things off. Although my hubby might not see me that way. To him, I’m a bit of an off the wall, unorganized, wild card. That’s because he sees “Mommy Cindy” who is juggling all day. When I was single, my dorm room was immaculate and my checklists were consistent. At one point I was determined that I wanted to become a librarian, mostly so I could sort books into where they belonged all day. Ben is still like that, as much as he can be with the wild card companion that he now has.

Anyway… back to checklists. After realizing what the DVDs were for, we looked up the list of nominations for the SAG Awards. Check it out here. Oh boy. We should have started watching them the second they started coming in for consideration. We had a mountain of nominations already and more are coming in every day!

We have our work cut out for us. We decided to choose one category at a time and work our way through. We started with the category “Female Actor in a Leading Role.” Mostly because I was super excited to watch “Harriet” and “JoJo Rabbit”, so that made the decision easy. We have been watching a movie every night after the girls go to bed. We’re trying to get as many watched as possible so we can vote on as many categories as we can. So far we have watched several movies that I thoroughly enjoyed. We have also kept the mute button on hand for a few movies so that we can watch it without so much profanity. Speaking of… there are some movies/shows that we have determined not to give an audience to at all because of content. We refuse to lower our standards just so we can vote on awards.

We’ll keep you updated on our viewing progress. Meanwhile… if you’re up for a movie date night and live in the area, hit us up.
