The Producer
Guys… I’m tired. I mean… more than usual. Ben and I decided to produce our own short film. We have been trying to get a film reel but have had not many chances at lead roles without a reel. So… Ben decided to write his own scripts so he can then film them and guarantee a piece for his reel that he’s happy with. We decided the first week of December that we had enough connections in Utah to cast and produce a low-budget short film. We were planning on going to Utah for Christmas so we figured that throwing in a short film would be hard work… but would…

A New Appreciation
It has been such an adventure having the opportunity to work the same jobs as Ben. To get to meet some of the people that he’s told me so much about and seeing what he gets to see! It’s not a chance many women get to have, to do the same kind of work as their husband. I feel incredibly blessed. Recently I’ve had the chance to take a long time to get ready, just like Ben! I’ve had to re-learn how to style my hair. Yes…I did kind of forget a tad. No joke, I had to borrow my husband’s hair dryer. I can’t remember the last time I cared…

No Shave November
How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? I would assume if you have long hair it’ll take longer than if you have very short hair (get my drift). Who knows? All I know is that in our family Ben is the one that takes longer to primp every day. Part of the reason for this is that I probably don’t care as much as I should. In my defense, I know my hair will be grabbed with banana mushed hands and I will be gardening, cleaning, bathing children, and trying to throw some exercise into my day. I’m way less motivated to care about what…

Finally I’m A Professional Actress
I’m not joking folks. I’ve arrived! The day after I registered for Central Casting I was able to pick up a shift as a background actress in a show on CBS! But I get ahead of myself… again. I had so much to tell you on the last post but I had an itchy trigger finger and I posted before telling you all about registering! So we’re in line at 4 am waiting to register and a family of raccoons comes by! Not joking. Mom and babies too. They got close enough to make people nervous. The guy that was standing by me is on the Air Force. He was…

Central Casting – My Turn
I woke up at 1:30 am this morning to register for Central Casting. :0 And no… I was not first in line. I was number nine. Why, do you ask, would I come out here (I’m writing this as I wait) that early in the morning to register for Central Casting? Good question. I’ll tell you. Reason number 1: I would love to have an inside perspective on what goes on on-set. Ben comes home from work with the funniest stories and he has to explain a lot to me because I have no point of reference. I’d love to be able to chat more easily with him and understand…

Alone in the Pumpkin Patch
One of my favorite things about fall is the fact that it’s harvest time. In Utah, autumn is the time to pray over your fields so they won’t be killed by an early frost. When the food is finally harvested it is truly a blessing to be thankful for. I miss Utah autumns. The leaves actually change colors and fall! The first time I jumped in a pile of leaves was as a college student at Utah State University. Meanwhile in California, it’s the time to start planting more veggies. No frost ruins the crops out here… honestly the only reprieve you have from your garden is running out of…

Walking a Tightrope With You
I was sitting on the floor, wrestling my 18-month old as my older children were chasing each other around the room. I think they must get faster the sleepier they are (a scientific study should be done on this). Ben was shooting a commercial in L.A., and it was going late, as usual, so I was by myself getting the girls to bed. I was the only one singing our let’s-get-ready-for-prayer-by-singing-about-Jesus song. The girls were too busy tormenting each other, and they were oblivious to the fact that I was too tired to chase them. I was overworked, sweaty, sore, and just plain exhausted, with plenty of chores still to…

More Car Trouble
I’ve been walking around town the last few days realizing that it’s a terrible idea to be independent. Terrible! With how far the girls school is, it is impossible for me to consistently be without transportation. So far we’ve only done one pick up and one drop off (a one way, three mile trip for the girls, a two way, six mile trip for me). If it were just me that would be one thing. Don’t get me wrong… I’d buy an exorbitantly priced bus pass or stay home every day. Making my little ones walk six miles every day getting to school and back doesn’t seem very kind. At…

Car trouble
So… this happened. Ben was on his way to work on a two-day commercial. The driver in the semi truck wasn’t watching. Sadly, Ben wasn’t able to make it to the commercial he had booked. In fact… they found someone else for the job and promised they’d bring him back for something else in the future. Ben didn’t get injured at all. Well… he did end up with a tight neck and shoulders and a migraine for a few days but we’ll take that considering the alternative. We have been blessed. As happy as we are that Ben wasn’t at fault and was safe, we’re now out a car. And……

The Audition
Auditions always have made me nervous. Funny enough… I’m not even the one having the auditions and yet, I still feel butterflies in my stomach. Go figure. Ben applies for an average of twenty five or so jobs a day. Of those jobs, Ben gets to audition for about one a week. So to be clear, out of seven hundred job submissions in a month, Ben gets to audition for maybe four jobs. No wonder I’m so anxious about them. Getting an audition is difficult enough, but then add the hundreds (or thousands) of people auditioning for the same role and suddenly it seems impossible to land any role. On top…
